This initiative is specifically designed to support low-income households, and it provides substantial funding, with up to £700 million currently available to make these improvements possible.

Who is eligible for the Home Upgrade Grant 2?

To help you determine if you can benefit from the Home Upgrade Grant 2 (HUG2), here are the key criteria applicants need to meet:

  • Not Connected to Mains Gas: Your property must currently be off the mains gas grid.
  • Income Qualification: Your household’s combined annual income needs to be below £31,000, or your home must be located in a qualifying rural Local Authority (LA) area.
  • Energy Performance Rating: Your property’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating should be D, E, F, or G.
  • Local Council Participation: Your local council must be actively participating in the HUG2 scheme.
  • Means-Tested Benefits: At least one person living in your home should be receiving a means-tested benefit.

What Energy-Saving Upgrades Are Included in Home Upgrade Grant 2?

The Home Upgrade Grant 2 (HUG2) is designed to fully cover the cost of installing a variety of effective energy efficiency measures in eligible homes. These valuable improvements can transform your living space and include:

  • Comprehensive Insulation: Boosting your home’s warmth and efficiency with upgraded wall, loft, and underfloor insulation.
  • Air Source Heat Pumps: Installing modern, efficient heating systems that draw warmth from the air.

As a core objective, the scheme aims to significantly improve the energy performance of homes, helping to lift households out of fuel poverty. It specifically targets upgrading properties with an EPC rating of F-G to at least Band D, and D-E homes to Band C where feasible, contributing directly to the UK’s commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
